  • Time: 09:00 to 16:00
  • Location: Online
  • Audience: Family and loved ones, Members, Practitioners

This two-day training is intended for anyone who supports, as a volunteer or a professional, people living with or recovering from a mental health problem. It aims to equip participants to recognise a breach of rights, support the person through the steps that follow and, where needed, represent them before the relevant bodies.

Who is this training for?

No prior legal knowledge is required. The training is designed to be accessible and draws heavily on scenarios taken from real cases handled by our team.

  • Members of Droits-Accès de l’Outaouais
  • Community sector practitioners
  • Caregivers and people close to the person
  • Anyone wishing to better understand their rights

What the two days cover

  1. Day 1 — Fundamental rights. The Quebec legal framework, consent to care, involuntary hospitalisation and protective supervision. Hands-on workshop in the afternoon.
  2. Day 2 — Support and representation. The supporting role, drafting a complaint, appeals before the Administrative Tribunal of Quebec, and the role of the complaints commissioner.

“I understood that defending your rights isn’t fighting someone. It’s making sure what is already written gets respected.” — a participant from the previous cohort
